It’s supposed to be a “Holly Jolly Christmas”. It’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. But what if it’s not? What if Christmas only heightens one pain, or sense of loss? What if the expectation of joy actually worsens our troubles?
Christmas can be a great time. It can also be incredible hard for those who go into their first Christmas without a loved one. Or you reflect on your hopes for 2021 and realize life took a very different turn. So when we hear a song title “Joy to the World” it can almost seem like a slap in the face. “Joy to the World? – I can’t even find joy in my life- you might say. Is it remotely possible to experience a type of joy that does not depend on circumstances?
