The Root of Addiction and the Path to Freedom from It
When I was 19 years old, back in the 1800’s, I went to Israel for several months with an organization called Teen Missions. We built a chicken house for an Arab Christian Orphanage on the outskirts of Bethlehem. During our off days, we would go into Jerusalem to shop. Since Jerusalem is such a magnet for Christian tourists, you find souvenir shops everywhere.
Olive wood carvings were one of the most popular souvenirs back in those days. The merchants would make carvings of Bible characters. Christians would just eat this up. I bought some myself and got others passed down to me. Here’s one sample. This is a carving of Christ with the crown of thorns on his head.
