Sometimes it feels like we fight life’s battles alone. We know our challenges both external and internal. If you’re a Christian, you also know the ongoing struggle of living the Christian life in a hostile world. If we only look at things from our perspective, it looks like we’re losing and in an ever diminishing minority. Many modern people have been slapping the labels “dangerous” and “wrong side of history” on the Christian worldview. If we try to live according to Jesus’ commands, we can find ourselves in a tiny minority in our communities.
This is why it is vital for us to add the spiritual realm to our own “visible” perspective. People who followed God found themselves alone or among the few on occasion. They felt like they had to fight alone. Yet sometimes, He revealed the great spiritual forces on our side.
Here’s some examples from the Bible (New Living Translation):
2 Kings 6:15-17
15 When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. 16 “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” 17 Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.
Psalm 68:17
17 Surrounded by unnumbered thousands of chariots,
the Lord came from Mount Sinai into his sanctuary.
Daniel 7:9-10
I watched as thrones were put in place and the Ancient One sat down to judge.
His clothing was as white as snow, his hair like purest wool.
He sat on a fiery throne with wheels of blazing fire,
10 and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence.
Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him.
Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.
Matthew 26:53
53 Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly? - Jesus.
Revelation 5:11
11 Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders.
Think you’re alone in life’s battles? Ask God to open your spiritual eyes to see His immeasurable help.
